| To my freshman year laundry room crush: our paths crossed once in the basement of Lower Keeney, or twice. Clothing rhythmically tumbling late at night reminds me of that Sunday afternoon when, eager for a material connection, I briefly considered stealing a sock. | comments: Leave a comment |
| | Last night I dreamed I was playing ping pong with my grandmother Ursel. I told her as I returned to the table after retrieving the ball from a missed shot that it was really good to finally be able to talk to her. I am glad I had the opportunity at last. | comments: Leave a comment |
| Another go tournament yesterday, this one in SF's Japantown. There were lots of kids participating, which was cool. One of them kicked my ass. (I went 3 and 1.)
The respective interview processes seem to be progressing, so that's pretty cool. I've got yet another interview scheduled for tomorrow afternoon.
And now an update on my writing: this is getting ridiculous. Last week I only sat down to write two times for a total of about 2 hours. It seems that continuously expanding deadlines don't work for me, so here's a concrete one: next Saturday I'm going to send out whatever I have at that time to my first readers, finished or not. So there. (Hah. =) | comments: Leave a comment |
| | As subject, story's still incomplete. I spent the week interviewing at a couple of companies, phone & in person, plus a code test that I spent most of yesterday on (kinda fun, actually!), so I haven't had the mental energy to sit down and write. A little sad. I will get this thing done, though. | comments: 2 comments or Leave a comment |

| | Predictably, the story's still not done. Hah. It is now 11,327 words long. It progresses. | comments: 3 comments or Leave a comment |
| | Story's not done; progress has been made. Stand by. (If it's not done in a week I'll eat my hat. Without even adding salt.) | comments: 2 comments or Leave a comment |
| | Three weeks ago I set myself a deadline. The good news is, I got a lot of writing done — the story now stands at just under 7,000 words, or about 11 pages as I measure it. The bad news? it's not done yet. About a third of the story still needs to get down on silicon (little magnetic thingies, really). So I'm pushing my deadline up another week, to 23 May. Stay tuned. | comments: 2 comments or Leave a comment |
| OK, boys and girls. Some of you know that I am working on a short story. It's full of intrigue and all that jazz. Or it will be, once I've written it. That's where you, dear reader, come in: three weeks from today – May 16 – I will have a first draft that longs to be proofread. I especially need your help if you don't mind telling me "Mike, your story sucks" or "this is such a rip-off of such-and-such-a-famous-author" or "your prose is way stilted, man". I mean, if that's what you think. If you can suggest improvements, even better.
Pls drop me a note (facebook or email's fine) if you'd like to be a reader. Much obliged!

In other news, I was in my first ever go tournament today and I won all three of my games. Pretty awesome. | comments: 1 comment or Leave a comment |
